Schizophrenic jailed after killing dad-of-3
A PARANOID schizophrenic brutally attacked and killed a father-ofthree after being told he had to leave his flat.
Lorand Zdarcea launched a sustained and repeated assault on Jia Lu Huang on August 22 last year at an address in Atkinson Road, Urmston.
Mr Huang, 64, whose associate owned the flat, had been asked to go and pick up the keys after Zdarcea refused to leave. Manchester crown court heard Romanian national Zdarcea was being evicted because of ‘unpredictable behaviour.’
Police were at the scene on standby before Mr Huang entered, the court heard, in case there was any trouble.
They Tasered Zdarcea following the incident after he attempted to seize an item from them.
The IPCC and GMP both confirmed police involvement in the case was not being investigated.
Zdarcea had been admitted to hospital twice in 2015 and 2016 in Romania with mental health problems.
Mr Huang’s injuries were described as ‘multiple and dreadful.’ He was hit by ‘more than one blunt object,’ as well as being punched, kicked and stamped on several times.
Mr Huang’s partner, Minh Tuyet Tran, who was outside, was hit repeatedly by Zdarcea with an iron bar after he emerged.
Zdarcea had been given the flat in return for carrying out a ‘modest’ work including supervising a car park in the road, also being paid a daily wage. The flat was owned by London-based associates of Mr Huang.
Zdarcea, 35, of Atkinson Road, Urmston, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, and unlawful wounding. He was sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum term of ten-and-a -half years.
Judge David Stockdale QC, Honorary Recorder of Manchester, sentenced Zdarcea to a hospital order to undergo treatment for his mental health problems. He will remain in hospital until being declared fit for prison. The court heard Zdarcea said he attacked Mr Huang and his partner because they were involved in drug dealing, claims which were ‘completely groundless’ the judge said.
A widower, Mr Huang had three adult children.
Speaking after the hearing his daughter Louise, 24, told the M.E.N. she was happy with the sentence passed but said her father’s death had not yet sunk in.
She said: “I’m glad it’s all over and done with. He was a typical dad. He cared about me and his children.”
