Superstar Katy sets date to play at Arena
KATY Perry has announced a UK tour with a date at Manchester Arena – while Kings of Leon’s show there has been cancelled.
Pop star Perry was among the performers at Ariana Grande’s One Love Manchester concert on Sunday, which raised more than £2m for those affected by the terror attack at the Arena last month.
Now she has announced she is returning to the city to play a huge headline show of her own at the venue.
Manchester Arena remains closed while investigations continue into the suicide bombing, which killed 22 people and injured 120 more after Ariana Grande’s concert there on May 22. Many of them were children.
The Kings of Leon show scheduled to be held at the venue this weekend was cancelled yesterday.
The Nashville band were due to perform there on Friday to plug their chart-topping seventh album WALLS, but the show can no longer go ahead.
In a statement, management said: “Following last month’s tragic incident and the subsequent temporary closure of the main area outside the venue, Manchester Arena has no other option than to cancel this Friday’s Kings of Leon show.
“We apologise for not being able to stage this event and the inconvenience caused to our customers.”
It is not yet known when the venue will reopen.
Perry’s show is scheduled to take place there on June 22 next year.
Her Witness tour will also call at London’s O2 (June 14), Birmingham’s Barclaycard Arena (June 18), Sheffield Arena (June 19), Liverpool Echo Arena (June 21), Glasgow SSE Hydro (June 24) and Newcastle Metro Radio Arena (June 25).
It comes in support of her fifth album of the same name, which is due out on Friday.
Tickets to the tour go on sale on Friday and will be available from Ticketmaster.
