A FUNDRAISING appeal has been launched for the family of a dad fatally stabbed outside his house.

Michael Grimshaw was knifed in the neck outside his Sale home on Thursday night.

His grieving partner, Michelle Pook – who witnessed him being attacked – cannot face returning home after the horrific attack, say relatives.

The devoted dad, 34, is understood to have been attacked after confronting a group of youths who were causing trouble outside his home on Royton Avenue at around 11.10pm. The thugs then fled, leaving him for dead.

Michelle’s daughter, Rachel Whalley, has set up a fundraising campaign to help the family in the wake of his death.

It is hoped any money raised will help mum-of-four Michelle to set up in a new home, pay for school uniforms and help pay for Christmas alone as a single mum. The donations will also be used to pay for Mr Grimshaw’s funeral costs.

Rachel said: “Michael was a brilliant step father to us all and the most amazing, supportive fiancé to my mother. He was loved so much by all of us.”

Rachel has now set up a Go Fund Me page to help raise money for her family in their hour of need.

In a moving post on the fundraising website, she wrote: “Due to this horrible incident happening outside my mother’s home as you can expect she is in no position to return.

“What was once a family home has now turned into an awful memory for my mother. She has three younger children that will now be being re-housed with my mother closer to her family. “My mother has been left with a broken heart and a home she cannot face.” A vigil in memory of Mr Grimshaw took place in Sale on Saturday night. Around 150 neighbours and friends lit candles and laid flowers outside his home as they their respects. A 16-year-old boy arrested in connection with the murder has been bailed, pending further enquiries. The M.E.N. understands that another suspect is currently on the run and could have travelled to Ireland.
