Speeding driver fled from police at 80mph
A DANGeROUS driver fled police officers at speeds of up to 80mph.
Michael Sephton was spotted speeding by traffic officers in Leigh.
Police turned on their blue lights in a bid to stop him, but Sephton – driving without insurance and while disqualified – ignored them and attempted to get away.
Dash cam footage showed him speeding through residential streets and swerving out of junctions.
The chase, in the early hours of Sunday, wound through Wigan town centre, peaking at speeds of 80mph. Sephton, who ran a number of red lights, came to a stop on Atherleigh Way at around 3.30am before being arrested.
The 34-year-old, of Warrington Road, Leigh, appeared at Wigan magistrates court. He pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, driving with no insurance, and to dangerous driving.
Sephton is due to be sentenced at Bolton crown court on September 4.
Pc Matt Picton, of GMP Traffic, said: “This kind of driving is totally unacceptable.
“It puts the public in danger and the officers who are attempting to stop them.
“Fortunately no one was hurt, but driving through a town centre, and through red lights, things could have been very different.
“This is some of the work traffic officers undertake on a daily basis. We always look to prosecute these people and to place them before the courts at every opportunity.
“They have no place on our roads.”
