The dog days are over for Kenny as he bounces back!

YOU would never imagine that nine months ago this happy, playful dog was just days away from death after being found callously dumped on a street corner.

Kenny was severely emaciated and suffering from a chronic skin condition that had caused his skin to crack and fur to drop off.

The vet who treated him branded it one of the worst cases of neglect he had ever seen – and the animal was in such bad condition that no one was able to tell what breed he was.

Kenny was discovered collapsed on Kenyon Street in Oldham back in November last year, having been dumped just yards from Pennine Pen Animal Rescue.

Michael Waugh, who manages the rescue centre, said he believes the dog had been neglected for a long time, but was unable to say for certain exactly how long.

“It could have been since birth,” he told the M.E.N.

“We just don’t know. When he came to us we couldn’t tell how old he was, or what breed he was. He was tired and weak, we couldn’t even weigh him because putting him on the scales would have been too distressing. “All we knew was he was a large breed dog.” Kenny, who is now thought to be around threeyears-old, has been recuperating in the care of Michael and the other volunteers at Pennine Pen Animal Rescue ever since. Over the past nine months, he has built up quite a fan base, and the rescue regularly posts updates on social media on his recovery and how he is getting on.

In the most recent update, shared on the rescue’s Facebook page, Kenny can be seen running around happily playing fetch with volunteers. The difference in his appearance is incredible, his fur has almost completely returned and he is looking much fuller and healthier.

Michael added: “He now looks like he should have always looked.

“Apart from a few allergies he is absolutely brilliant.

“He’s still quite wary of people, because of how he was treated in the past, but with people he knows and feels comfortable with he is great.

“Kenny is going to stay with us here for a bit longer, but in the near future we are hoping to find him that special home.”
