Come as you are to a swaggering feast...

- By EMILY HEWARD emily.heward@men-news.co.uk @EmilyHeward

SOME of Manchester’s best independent restaurateurs are joining forces for a food rave inside the city’s derelict Mayfield Depot.

Gary Usher, owner of Didsbury bistro Hispi, and his head chef Richard Sharples, will be on the pans at the Come As You Are banquet, while DJs-turned-restaurateurs The Unabombers – aka Justin Crawford and Luke Cowdrey – will be on the decks.

The ‘tear and share’ feast includes gin-cured sea trout with apple, kohlrabi, fennel and creme fraiche; whole chargrilled leg of lamb and dark chocolate pate; and cratedigger ice cream with hazelnut granola, washed down with cocktails from The REfuge, Justin and Luke’s restaurant and bar at The Principal Hotel.

Guests can expect to spend as much time dancing as dining as The Unabombers – who also own Volta in West Didsbury and Electrik in Chorlton – spin a lively set throughout.

The event promises to be one of the highlights of this year’s Manchester Food and Drink Festival programme, which also includes a Mexican Day of the Dead banquet from Wahaca founder Thomasina Miers and a Thai-style Full Moon Party from Tampopo. Phil Jones, festival director, said: “This amazing collaboration is going to be one of the highlights of the Festival. It’s bringing together some of the biggest, creative and most successful names in the industry to produce what can only be labelled as a swaggering, staggering, musical feast.

“We’re passionate about bringing new and innovative ideas to the food and drink scene in Manchester and this fits the bill perfectly.

“The menu is outstanding and the Unabombers will be adding a fantastic DJ set to the whole affair.

“It’s certainly going to be a night to remember.”

The Come As You Are banquet takes place on Thursday, October 5, from 7.30pm. Tickets cost £55 and are on sale now.
