Return of Old Trafford hero a no-brainer for Reds fans

ZLATAN Ibrahimovic was a wanted man – by the United supporters.

The Reds have secured a deal to re-sign last season’s 28-goal top scorer.

Ibrahimovic was set to have his one-year initial Old Trafford contract extended this summer before his tore his anterior cruciate knee ligament in his knee last April.

The injury sustained in the Europa League home tie against Anderlecht wrecked the 35-year-old and United’s immediate plans to take up the option of a second season on the Old Trafford payroll.

But it has now finally happened after Ibrahimovic displayed an incredible fightback on the road to recovery.

United have stormed into the new campaign without Ibrahimovic with eight goals in two Premier League matches against West Ham and Swansea and are top of the table.

The sizzling start has been built around the improvement in United’s pace in attack with £75m new hitman Romelu Lukaku, plus Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

But an M.E.N. poll has shown that United fans still want Ibrahimovic back in United’s colours – and by some significant margin.

The poll revealed that 89 per cent of United’s followers were in favour of Zlatan being taken on again with just 11pc preferring the Reds to leave it.

The majority argued that it was essentially a no-brainer, suggesting that any club on the planet wouldn’t turn down the chance to get a striker of Ibrahimovic’s experienced and quality on board again.

Responses on Twitter were a bit more divided. There has been more anti-Zlatan feedback on social media, believing the veteran has had his day and would hold back the progress of Lukaku, Rashford and Martial.
