CITY SPECIAL No surprise as City face awayday blues

CITY have been drawn away from home in domestic cup competition for the 10th time in succession.

Pep Guardiola’s side face West Brom in the third round of the Carabao Cup to continue their remarkable run.

City travel to the Hawthorns on the week commencing September 18 after the draw was made in the early hours of yesterday morning in Beijing.

City are getting used to packing their bags when it comes to the domestic cups – as well as playing sides from the top flight.

The unlikely run in both the FA Cup and League Cup has also seen them drawn against fellow Premier League teams on nine occasions.

The latest draw has sparked an angry reaction from City fans on social media.

Phil Marland tweeted: ‘That’s now 10 consecutive away draws for @ManCity in FA & League cups, 9 of them against top flight teams. It’s a fix!’

Carl_mcfc added: ‘Water is still wet and City are still getting premiership teams away in the cup’.

Lee Bromfield also took to Twitter to say: ‘Yet another away draw, away again to a Prem Lge side, what a surprise – said no #mcfc fan, ever’. BOBBY Madley has paid the price for his inept refereeing performance at City on Monday night.

The Yorkshire official has gone from being the man in the middle in a televised, high-profile game to being named as fourth official for Watford versus Brighton on Saturday.

In what appears to be a clear slap on the wrist for a display which saw him red card both Kyle Walker and Morgan Schneiderlin – one terrible decision and one borderline – Madley has been taken out of the limelight.

And yet the men who suffered the injustice of his aberration will still have to serve their onematch suspensions, Walker missing the Blues’ trip to Bournemouth and Schneiderlin out of the Toffess’ trip to Chelsea on Sunday.

The FA’s disciplinary rule continues to be a shambles, with the two clubs unable to appeal the red cards as they were both second yellows – and yellow cards cannot be appealed, unlike straight reds.

The exception to that rule is in a case of simulation, under the rules introduced this season in a bid to eradicate diving.
