/MAIN EVENT Nine new bands for less than a tenner

-

CITYLIFE is partnering up with Manchester’s Stay Fresh Festival to bring you nine of the city’s best bands at a day long festival - for less than a tenner.

From moshing in the music hall to house partystyle mayhem in the main bar, Stay Fresh is the best fest for discovering new bands before they get huge.

Over two floors at Deaf Institute, just off Oxford Road, the September 30 gig features nine amazing acts, with tickets costing just £8.

Teaming up with Low Four studios, we’ll be bringing you exclusive studio sessions from the famous Old Granada Studios (where Tony Wilson gave Joy Division their first TV break) with the bands as the show approaches. So who’s on the bill? Well, there’s the crazy anarchic post-punk sounds of Mold, with a sound described as ‘f***ing mayhem’ by Louder Than War.

There’s the slick synth-pop subtlety of one of the city’s most promising acts, Koalas, whose recent single Home Heart took influence from the likes of Caribou, Boards Of Canada, and maybe even a little Bronski Beat.

We’ve got cerebral noise pop from all female four piece Ill – a band The Guardian branded as “grotty, wild, weird… and fiercely political”, in their recent ’50 future rising stars’ feature.

Earnest alt-rock outfit Easy Kill top the bill and launch their new album Melanscholar at the show. The record is coming out on Fierce Panda on September 22 and new single Phantom Pain is getting airplay on BBC Radio1 and 6music.

One of the city’s newest bands, Splutter, are playing a rare show having only formed in this year.

Drahla, Wedding, and Slowhandclap Band complete the bill.

Make sure you get your tickets from thedeaf institute.co.uk before they’re all gone.
