Corrie stars go back to school and
CORRIE stars dressed up as cheerleaders, jocks and pink ladies as they became Weatherfield High for the Pride parade.
Taking inspiration from this year’s pride theme of Class of 2017, the soap went for an Americana theme with nods to the movie Grease.
So Kym Marsh and Hayley Tamaddon dressed as cheerleaders, while Brooke Vincent and Sair Khan were pink ladies and Melanie Hill donned her leathers to become Sandy. Other Street stars on the float included Daniel Brocklebank, Antony Cotton, Sue Cleaver, Julia Goulding and Shelley King.
The soap cast and crew paid moving tribute to Corrie superfan Martyn Hett, who tragically died in the Manchester Arena bombing in May, with the slogan ‘Be More Martyn’ across the float.
Many on the float also wore Weatherfield High shirts which had #BeMoreMartyn on the back.
Kym looked fabulous in her red cheerleader outfit but modestly said: “It was Hayley’s idea to dress as Rydell High cheerleaders, even if we do look a bit ridiculous.”
Brooke Vincent said: “The atmosphere is amazing and every year it gets bigger and bigger and every year you forget the excitement you get when you head out there, everyone is out to have a good time.”
After the parade Corrie’s Antony Cotton, a patron of Pride, led the soap’s cast and crew onto the Big Weekend main stage where he made a special tribute to Martyn, 29, from Stockport.
