Rashford gives Henrikh all the credit for strike

- By SAMUEL LUCKHURST

MARCUS Rashford broke the deadlock against Leicester in United’s 2-0 win but despite getting the crucial goal the 19-year-old gave all the credit to Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The Armenian crossed the ball for Rashford from a corner and United’s goalscorer has claimed that Mkhitaryan’s delivery made the goal.

Speaking to MUTV after the game, Rashford said: “It was a perfect ball so that’s made the goal I didn’t have to do very much.

“He’s put a lot of speed on it so even though the defenders can see it it’s difficult for them to clear it because of how fast he’s whipped it in. The ball has made the goal.”

It was Mkhitaryan’s fifth assist of the season already and the 28-year-old will be hoping to add to that tally after the international break.

Speaking to MUTV, he said: “Another assist I’m very glad and very excited. I want to thank my team-mates, I will keep doing the same and hope to get more assists and more goals.”

It took 70 minutes for United to break down what Jose Mourinho described as the Leicester ‘blue wall’ and despite Romelu Lukaku missing a penalty Rashford was always confident that United would get the breakthrough.

He said: “Today it was a difficult game – we had a lot of chances in the first half that weren’t quite going our way or were getting deflected, so it was one of those games and it could have gone either way.”
