City’s third kit a case of ‘deja Blue’

CITY will debut their new third kit when they take on Feyenoord in the Champions League tonight.

The Blues have caught the attention with their reserve strip in recent years – fans sang about the ‘ghost green’ effort in 2015 glowing in the dark, while it was impossible to miss the orange-and-purple number last year.

The latest effort is a bit less conspicuous though as the club has opted for, in the words of Nike, ‘a contemporary dazzle camo of deep greens complemented by flashes of City blue. These details not only bring a vibrant pop of colour to the shirt, socks (the club’s nickname ‘City’ appears on the calf and back hem of the jersey) and shorts, but also creates a clear link to Manchester City’s proud identity, with this shade of blue having been synonymous with the club since its formation in 1894.’

Stirring stuff, and the Blues are expected to line-up in the shirt for away games in cup competitions, meaning they could also wear it for the league cup game at West Brom next week.

Reaction to the shirt was mostly positive, with supporters happy with the three kits revealed for the season.

However, looking at the Nike third kits released for other leading English and European teams it was impossible not to get a sense of deja vu.

As one Blue put it: ‘Nike’s design department must be working with very low budgets and uncreative people.’
