CRICKET ace Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff has unveiled plans to build 400 swanky apartments in Manchester.

The ex-England and Lancashire star, 39, is one of three directors of the company behind blueprints for the 36-storey tower in Castlefield.

Flintoff, Tony Bhatti and Neil Spencer - bosses at Logik Developments - want to build the block on Arundel Street, opposite St George’s church.

The tower would be in the heart of the Castlefield conservation area.

The move is the firm’s first foray into the city’s property market. But with plans for further developments, Flintoff could soon follow in the footsteps of fellow sports star Gary Neville.

Ashes hero Flintoff has spared no expense in getting the very best team, employing the expertise of design firm Simpson Haugh, of Beetham Tower fame.

The star architect outfit are currently involved in a number of city centre projects, including the 64-storey Owen Street tower.

If approved by planning chiefs, Flintoff and co’s tower will contain 276 two-bedroom apartments, 108 one-bedroom apartments and two three-bedroom apartments.

There are also plans for a roof garden.

The tower would be on the site of the DOT Motorcycle building. Manufacturing there stopped in the 1960s. Residents recently had the chance to get a first peak at the plan’s when they were revealed at a public exhibition.

Mr Spencer said: “Manchester is undoubtedly one of the most exciting destinations in the UK.

“The Castlefield area in particular is on an exciting regeneration journey which we are proud to be a part of.

“Our aim is to contribute towards the supply of good quality, wellmanaged new homes, which are needed to support sustainable growth in the city.

“We are working with some of the best in the business to deliver the Arundel Street development and look forward to updating further as the scheme progresses.”

And it seems that this is only the first step, with projects planned for the future.

According to the public consultation, ‘Logik Developments has recently acquired the site, which is one of a number of their land interests in Manchester city centre.’

Mr Spencer added: “The Arundel Street development is what we hope to be the first of many within the region for Logik Developments, with further projects potentially in the pipeline for beyond 2017.”

The firm is looking elsewhere across the north west for development opportunities, it is understood.
