Husband charged with wife’s murder

A HUSBAND has been charged with murdering his wife in Rochdale.

Darren Merriman, 40, of Birch Crescent, in Newhey, has been charged with the murder of Elizabeth Merriman.

He has been remanded to appear before Manchester Crown Court today.

Elizabeth, a mum-of-three, was found dead at an address on Birch Crescent, on Sunday, October 22.

A post-mortem examinatio­n found the 39-year-old died as a result of stab wounds to the torso and abdomen, police confirmed.

Police arrested a man at the scene and he was taken to hospital.

A JustGiving appeal has been launched by Elizabeth’s friends to raise money for her three sons.

An event to celebrate her life and raise further funds is also taking place at the Ko-Ko Lounge, on Packer Street, Rochdale, on December 3.

Touching tributes to Mrs Merriman have been paid on the JustGiving site.

Daniel Huszar wrote: “Such a beautiful lady taken from us far too soon. We will all miss you Liz.”

Helen Emerson added: “Still so in shock at Liz being gone.

“Best wishes and much admiration for all those supporting the boys while coping with their own grief.”
