Roller yours for Bitcoins

RARE ROLLS ROYCE GHOST GOES UP FOR SALE... BUT BUYER HAS TO PAY WITH ELECTRONIC CURRENCY

- By LEWIS PENNOCK

A SUPER-rare Rolls-Royce is up for sale for a whopping £120,000 - but can only be purchased with BITCOINS.

The gold Rolls-Royce Ghost, which comes with custom-made champagne flutes and a built-in refrigerator, will only be sold in the electronic currency.

The lavish Roller, which is up for grabs from a private seller on Auto Trader, also has Freeview television and a 360 degree overhead camera. It is powered by a massive 6.6-litre engine and is certain to turn a few heads with the golden bodywork.

The sale of the 155mph luxury car is being touted as a UK first for Auto Trader. Ali Hasan, who runs a software development company, said he is flogging the £117,995 Ghost because he wants to cash in on the Cryptocurrency boom.

Ali, from Oldham, said: “Bitcoin seems very lucrative and we thought we would stick it on in exchange for some Bitcoins. They’ve shot up dramatically, we will have to see how far we can get with it. With this sort of car, the amount of coverage and the calls we’ve been getting mean it won’t last very long.

“There’s been a lot of interest, I’ve had a few calls from down south, but unfortunately they’ve not been something I’ve been happy with.

“There have been a lot of cash offers and a lot of silly offers but I’m looking for Bitcoin.

“Some people are aware of what Bitcoin is, others are like, ‘what’s Bitcoin? Where can I get them from?’”

Ali, who listed the car two weeks ago, added: “You get all sorts of reactions when you drive it. You can just about read their lips most of the time. I wouldn’t say it’s unpleasant but you get all sorts, sometimes you get shouted at, but mainly good.”

The seven-year-old car is currently registered with the vanity plate GO07DEN, which the buyer can pick up for an extra £8,000 - the same price as the extra 22-inch Diamond Cut Wheels. It has about 35,000 miles on the clock.

Unfortunately, because the price of Bitcoins fluctuates daily, it is not certain how much the motor will actually cost, but based on Wednesday’s exchange rate, it comes to around 14.92 bitcoins, as each coin was worth £8,125.95.

Auto Trader Editorial Director, Erin Baker, said: With the meteoric rise in popularity of Bitcoin, it comes as no surprise that sellers are now attempting to trade this way.”
