BIKERS formed a guard of honour at the funeral of dad-of-two Michael Pilkington.

The keen biker, of Haughton Green, Denton, died after his Suzuki motorbike collided with a Peugeot 208 on Hyde Road in Belle Vue, near Gorton, last month.

The 30-year-old was treated at the scene by emergency services and taken to hospital, but sadly died.

The driver of the Peugeot was also taken to hospital to be treated following the crash.

Michael Pilkington’s funeral took place at Dukinfield Cemetery yesterday and riders from motorcycling clubs turned out to ride alongside the cortege.

The procession of bikers, dressed mainly in black, travelled along Wordsworth Road in Denton, Mancunian Road, Lancaster Road, Two Trees Lane, Stockport Road, Seymore Street and Corporation Street. Greater Manchester Police issued a notice to drivers that traffic might be delayed between 12.50pm and 2pm as the procession made its way through the town.

In a tribute issued following the accident, Michael’s family said in a statement: “Michael was a loving father to his beautiful son and daughter, partner to Jade, son to his parents John and Lindsay and brother to Natasha and Scott.

“We are struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of our beloved Michael and ask to be allowed to grieve as a family at this time.”

Meanwhile, Pc Paul Hailwood, of GMP’s serious collision investigation unit, said: “I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family – my thoughts are with them at this terrible time.

“I would ask that anybody who witnessed the collision or has dash cam footage to please contact the police.”

Call police on 0161 856 4741.
