united told to hijack city’s laporte bid

- By JAMES ROBSON

JOSE Mourinho has been urged to steal another target from under the nose of Pep Guardiola - with Gary Neville telling the United manager to move for Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte.

Sources in Spain claim City have reignited their interest in the centre-back, who has a £60m buyout clause.

Mourinho has just won the race for long-term Blues target Alexis Sanchez - and Neville insists Laporte should be his next target.

The France under-21 international rejected a move to the Etihad two summers ago in Guardiola’s first transfer window at the club.

But he has emerged as a City target once again, with the Premier League leaders determined to strengthen in defence before the end of the month.

Neville claims he would be a quality acquisition - insisting Mourinho must step in He tweeted: “In my very short time in Spain we played them 3 times! This lad can play! Get in United.

“It’s really hard to get players out of Bilbao and costly, but this lad is a very good player.”

Mourinho has already signed two centre-backs since taking over at United in 2016 Eric Bailly and Victor Lindeloff. It is not an area considered to be in desperate need of address, with the United manager more concerned about improving at left-back and central midfield over the upcoming windows.
