BURGLARS broke into a house and stole bank cards before going on a contactless spending spree in McDonald’s, KFC and McColl’s.

The burglars broke into the property on Broadhill Road, Burnage, while the family were out for the day on Saturday, January 20.

They got into the house by smashing the rear window and climbing in.

The burglars then ransacked the house and stole bank cards, a Playstation, a drill and a laptop before fleeing.

Tayiba Sallem, 35, returned to the house with her three children at around 9.30pm and discovered the mess.

She then noticed her bank cards were missing and called police.

Before she was able to cancel the cards the burglars wracked up a bill of £300 to £400 via contactless payments, which don’t need a pin number.

The offenders visited 10 businesses including petrol stations, off-licences, McDonald’s, KFC and other shops to make purchases.

Tayiba’s husband, Moussa, said the burglary has left his children, aged five, 14 and 16, traumatised and unable to sleep.

He said it took a day before forensics officers could visit to take fingerprints, but unfortunately it is believed the offenders wore gloves.

Moussa, 40, told the M.E.N.: “(Tayiba) walked in the front door, everything was everywhere, the window was damaged – they broke in through the window.

“She went upstairs, damage everywhere.

“The kids are really scared. They are aged five, 14 and 16.

“They stole bank cards from my wife. They made payments of £300 to £400.

“They spent money at petrol stations, off licences, McColl’s using contactless payments.

“He was also paying for things at McDonald’s, KFC around seven to eight times.”

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: “Police were called shortly before 10pm on Saturday, January 20, to Broadhill Road to reports of a burglary.

“They have gone through the rear of the property, gone through and taken items and then fled the scene.”
