Two arrests in arson investigation

-

TWO men have been arrested after a house and cars were torched in targeted attacks in Tameside at Christmas.

The suspects, aged 22 and 26, were held after police raided two properties in the Hyde area yesterday.

They were detained on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and were taken into custody for questioning.

Firefighters were called to Clayton Street, Dukinfield, on Christmas Day shortly before 12.20am when a Seat Ibiza was set on fire.

They found the car was completely alight but managed to bring it under control.

The following day police were called to the same street to reports two cars were on fire at around 12.45am.

One was the same Seat Ibiza targeted the day before, while the second was a Seat Leon.

The third arson attack was carried out on a house on Callington Close on Thursday, January 18, at around 1.40am, police said. Two offenders broke into the property and started a fire before fleeing from the scene.

Nobody was injured during any of the attacks, which officers believe are linked.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service are also investigating alongside police.

Anyone with any information should call police on 101 quoting reference number 117 of 18/01/18, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
