Departing Rohan still excited by Sale future

- RUGBY UNION

ROHAN Janse van Rensburg believes there is something special happening at Sale.

The centre’s loan spell ended after the Sharks’ 15-13 win over Lyon and he has now returned to South Africa to link up with the Lions ahead of their Super Rugby campaign.

The 23-year-old has made a huge impact at the AJ Bell Stadium during his spell, and he believes he is leaving behind a club with plenty of exciting times ahead.

“I’m really stoked with how the club has performed since I’ve been here,” he told the club’s website.

“There is definitely something happening here at Sale and I’m excited for the team, especially the guys that I met and built good friendships with while I have been here.

“I’m really thankful for that. I’ve been blessed to be here with this whole squad and to see what’s starting to develop in this squad.

“Since I got here we only lost against Gloucester and it has been a squad effort. The team has been doing so well, everyone has been very disciplined in what we are trying to develop and I take my hat off to the players.

“Obviously the coaching has been fantastic as well. The younger guys have been brought into the side and made to feel really comfortable.

“It is always difficult making it comfortable for younger guys when they come in but here you can see the club puts a lot of effort into making the younger guys feel at home when they play and to make them feel at ease around the more senior players - it has been great to see.

“The best thing about what is happening here at the moment is that everyone is coachable. Sometimes you can get players who think they pretty much know everything.

“But the great thing here at Sale is that everyone wants to learn. If there is something different that a player needs to do in order to improve their game, everyone is willing to do that. It has been good to see that develop within the squad.

“While the senior guys are still learning, the younger guys are feeding off that which is brilliant.

“So I’m very excited for Sale. Whatever happens for them going forward, I know it’s only going to be good things.”

After finishing Super Rugby runners-up for the past two seasons, Rohan is determined to help the Lions go one better this time round.

“Saying goodbye to the Sale guys and to the club was tough,” he said. “Obviously, the squad here is a fantastic one and the guys were all so welcoming of me when I arrived and they were fantastic throughout my stay so having to leave is difficult.

“But I’m going back to the Lions and the new Super Rugby season and I want to go back with a bang.

“Playing in the weather we’ve had here in England is probably going to help me, so I’m very excited about going back to the Lions and trying to win the Super Rugby cup.

“The Lions have been in the final for the past two years so we have to keep trying to knock that wall down.

“I’m excited for my future. If it’s with the Lions, if it’s with Sale… I know it’s going to be the right decision whatever does happen.”
