A CORONATION Street fan from Canada has thanked the soap for its hardhitting testicular cancer storyline after it led her husband to have a potentially life-threatening lump removed.

Shortly after character Robert Preston’s cancer story aired at the end of last year, Scott Wray checked himself and discovered a lump.

He was sent for an ultrasound, which revealed a small tumour, and was then referred to a specialist.

Scott recently had surgery to remove the tumour.

The couple are waiting on biopsy results to confirm the diagnosis, but have been told it was very likely the lump was cancerous.

Scott is now awaiting a CT scan to see if the cancer has spread, but his doctor is confident the lump was found early enough - thanks to the Corrie storyline.

Scott’s wife Emily has since reached out on Twitter to thank the ITV1 soap, actor Tristan Gemmill and co-star Kym Marsh – who plays his girlfriend Michelle Connor.

She told the M.E.N: “The lump was in a spot that he would never have ever noticed unless he was checking. He had no other symptoms.

“His doctor has repeatedly said he’s very lucky Coronation Street made him check because it’s likely it was found early enough. We absolutely love Coronation Street. “This situation has definitely made us love and appreciate the show on a more personal level.” Emily added: “It would be amazing if sharing Scott’s story now helps someone else - awareness is so important.” Emily tweeted a photo of Scott smiling from his hospital bed with the words: “My husband had an orchiectomy today. “He found a lump after the storyline of Robert with testicular cancer. “Thank you so much for that storyline and raising awareness. “He would never have checked if it wasn’t for those episodes.” Actor Tristan replied with the heartfelt message: “Wow - thank you for letting me know. That’s terrific news! “We have an amazing team of writers and producers. “I’m just lucky enough to be the face on the end of it. “Please give your hubby a hearty man-hug and best wishes for a speedy recovery from all of us at Corrie.” Scott and Emily live in Canada where the much-loved show has a huge following. The couple toured the cobbles in September 2015 during Emily’s first trip to England.
