A DELICATESSEN meets restaurant inspired by the colourful, flavourful cooking of celebrity chef Yotam Ottolenghi will soon open in the south Manchester suburb of Chorlton.

Cantor’s Food Store - the first venture from Cheadle-born Eddy Cantor - will take over the vast Sher Akbar unit on Manchester Road, transforming it with stateof-the-art cooking equipment and a relaxed fit-out inspired by the chic warehouse bakeries of Los Angeles.

Formerly professional London-based musician, the entrepreneur fell into cheffing while looking for shifts to fit in around his day job.

His passion for food and drink eventually took over as his main interest and he moved back to Manchester with a view to open his own space.

Cantor explains: “I just went off London. I never fell in love with a London. After the first ten years, both with music and cooking, I wasn’t able to do some of the things I wanted to do.”

Now the proud tenant of the spacious Manchester Road unit, Cantor is transforming the former curry house, with a view to open the finished venue early next month.

Open every day from 8am to midnight and closing early on Mondays, Cantor’s Food Store promises to be a combination of delicatessen, bar, restaurant and retailer. But the one thing which holds everything together, says Cantor, will be his pursuit of quality.

“It’s going to be very hard, we’re going to try to make sure the standards are high, really high, and we’re going to listen to the people.

“We want to make everything ourselves. Anything we buy in will be from small artisan companies which we all agree are amazing.”

In preparation for the big launch, Cantor’s Food Store is currently recruiting across the board, visit gumtree.com for more information.
