Don’t worry, impressive Dean is not leaving Reds for keeps
IT was a quiet deadline day for United in terms of transfers – but academy goalkeeper Dean Henderson sparked the belief he might have left the club.
The 20-year-old has been excelling on loan at Shrewsbury Town this season in League One, where he has built up a big reputation among the club’s fans.
And on deadline day, he posted a series of stills of himself in Shrewsbury kit to his social media accounts, with the caption: “Couldn’t be more happy!! Here to stay. I love this team, let’s make history together.”
It sparked speculation among fans he had signed a permanent deal with the Shropshire club, but nothing was confirmed by either United or Shrewsbury.
Henderson was due to spend the entire 2017/18 campaign on loan, but his manager Paul Hurst revealed there was a January recall option.
And as the transfer deadline officially passed, Henderson appears to have been celebrating the fact that he will be remaining at the New Meadow for the rest of the season – with his loan club challenging for promotion to the Championship.
Jose Mourinho recalled Joel Pereira from a loan midway through the season 12 months ago so that Sam Johnstone could be given a temporary switch.
But United have not followed that path with Henderson, who the Shrewsbury manager has hailed as League One’s most consistent stopper.
