Who should be out and in for FA Cup clash...

JOSE Mourinho made 10 changes to the United team in their last FA Cup tie at Yeovil and a similar amount are maybe required for the weekend trip to Huddersfield.

The Reds were outthought by Tottenham and outfought by Newcastle in their last two away matches.

Alarmingly, Huddersfield hosted that first-half horror show in October when Anthony Martial was cowed by a City academy castoff and Victor Lindelof left the John Smith’s Stadium with two hoods pulled over his bowed head.

Changes are inevitable at both ends. Phil Jones and Chris Smalling gave goals away at Wembley and St James’ Park while United have failed to score in the first half in their last four Premier League fixtures – and Marcus Rashford’s breakthrough at Yeovil came in the 40th minute.

Rashford and Ander Herrera suffered muscle injuries but, provided they are fit, merit recalls.

Herrera’s importance could increase with Sevilla and Chelsea on the horizon, tests which justify a switch to a midfield trio, and a possible role for Michael Carrick in those encounters should not be underestimated. Carrick started three of United’s four Europa League away knockout ties en route to Stockholm.

Sergio Romero should be a dependable presence in Yorkshire and has conceded only four in his seven starts this term, although those chances all came in cup ties.

Lindelof did not start that firsthalf horror show at Huddersfield four months ago but needs a performance after his competitors flapped and flagged in London and on Tyneside.

The Swede and Marcos Rojo could be vying for the defensive distributor role Mourinho has overlooked in favour of the seasoned Jones and Smalling.

The left-back rotation should continue with a recall for Luke Shaw, finally looking settled at United under Mourinho.

If United are to switch to 4-3-3 then Juan Mata is essential. He has played his best football for the club in the formation and, ironically for a left-footer, remains the best option for the troublesome right flank that Rashford, Martial and Jesse Lingard stray from.

Martial needs to regain form following his travel sickness and demotion for Huddersfield’s February 3 visit by returning to the left, where he has bamboozled rightbacks since his debut goal in front of the Stretford End.

The FA Cup represents United’s best chance of silverware and retaining Paul Pogba would be advisable, regardless of his sobering away days over the last two weeks.
