- By ALEX SCAPENS and BETH ABBIT

A MAN who was stabbed to death in a daylight attack has been named as Mohammed Nabeel Hassan – and is believed to have recently got married.

The ‘polite and popular’ 22-yearold was knifed on Waterloo Street in Glodwick, Oldham, on Friday afternoon shortly after leaving prayers at his local mosque.

Devastated friends and neighbours said Mr Hassan was simply ‘in the wrong place at the wrong time.’

It is believed he had been making his way home, on Greengate Street, after praying at the Jalalabad Jamay Masjid and getting something to eat.

Shocked witnesses described a car and foot chase in the area immediately before Mr Hassan was stabbed.

Mr Hassan, who was known by the nickname Belo, became unwittingly caught up in the melee and was attacked, said residents.

Mr Hassan suffered multiple wounds and was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police arrested three men, aged 20, 20, and 22, and a 15-year-old boy on suspicion of attempted murder late on Friday night.

They remained in custody for questioning last night.

The close-knit community has been left in shock following the attack.

A family friend paid tribute to the keen footballer and said he leaves behind a wife. The couple had recently married, it is understood. Mohammed Jaz, 23, said: “He had been to pray and was going home, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was a normal 22-year-old, it could have been anyone.

“He was a nice, well-spoken lad, into football and very sociable. He was humble and very energetic. He got married recently and is from a hardworking family.

“He helped the community a lot, his family are very well-known and wellliked.”

It is believed that one first aidtrained passer-by, who is understood to work at Park Cake Bakery, stopped to help Mr Hassan immediately after the attack, in which he was stabbed multiple times.

Anyone with information is asked to call on 101, quoting reference number 1293 of March 9.
