THREE decades since 808 State first emerged, the Manchester duo are heading out on tour - ending in their home city.
With breakthrough singles Pacific, Cubik and In Yer Face, 808 State were the first electronica band to craft long-form dance music albums, well before the likes of Leftfield and Orbital - to whom they are often compared.
Now recording their sixth full studio album - Transmission Suite - at Manchester’s Old Granada Studios, their upcoming tour, 808 State: 30 Live will highlight the band’s contribution to dance music’s past and present.
The band will perform the better and less known tracks form their catalogue, alongside the new material in a new set with reworked arrangements across all nine shows.
The tour finishes at Manchester Academy December 21.
808 State released genre defining LPs from their first - Ninety - which came to characterise early acid house.
As part of the explosion of Manchester artists, the band on began to cross over to rock and indie, something that then found its way into 1991’s double album, ex:el.
Across subsequent albums Gorgeous, Don Solaris and Output Transmission, 808 continued to experiment with new forms and styles, bringing drum and bass and other elements to techno.
The band have also collaborated with the likes of Bjork, Manic Street Preachers’ James Dean Bradfield, Elbow’s Guy Garvey and a whole host of others.
808 State play at Manchester Academy on Friday December 21, 2018, with a 2am finish.
