four-day event will celebrate the finest in new, classic and cult TV with an impressive line-up of screenings, talks and one-off commissions at Manchester arts venue HOME.

As eclectic as ever, this year’s edition includes everything from an opening night screening of the Season 2 premiere of HBO drama Westworld to a 60th birthday event for kids TV stalwart Blue Peter to a celebration of cult comedy show Big Train.

Mancunian telly – and its abundant talent – will play a stronger role than ever this year. The wonderful Julie Hesmondhalgh will be in attendance to receive her Pilot Light Excellence in Television Award; Salford-born Christopher Eccleston will reflect on his illustrious career; and much-loved Manchester-set sitcom The Royle Family is honoured with a special 20th anniversary Q&A featuring Sue Johnston, Peter Martin and director Steve Bendelack.

Elsewhere – and worth attending for curiosity value alone – is Sex and the City: The World according to Woke Charlotte, a unique event exploring how the iconic American show impacted on women of colour. Presented by Londo n’s Reel Good Film Club, the event will include a live script reading of the Sex and the City pilot, recast entirely with people of colour, followed by a discussing panel.

In addition to looking back at the classic TV of the past, Pilot Light will also have one discerning eye on the future. With special screenings dedicated to new, unseen shows (which will compete for awards including Best TV Pilot and Best Web Series), it’s a great chance to sample the next generation of small screen storytellers.
