Supermarket staff pay tribute to popular Jean
TRIBUTES have been paid to an ‘immensely popular’ woman who died after a collision in Oldham.
Emergency crews and an air ambulance were scrambled to Chadderton following the crash on Tuesday morning.
Paramedics fought to save a woman injured in the collision, who has been named locally as Jean Wilson, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Bouquets of flowers have been left at the scene of the tragic collision, which happened on Tweedale Way in Hollinwood.
It is understood that Jean had been on her way to work at the nearby Morrison’s supermarket when she was hit by a white Volkswagen Up.
Jean, who is believed to be 55, has been described by friends as a ‘one of a kind’ woman with a big personality.
Colleagues at Morrisons – where she worked for more than 12 years – said in a statement: “Jean was an immensely popular colleague who will be hugely missed by everyone at the store.
“Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this difficult time.”
Stephanie Gerrard lived nearby to Jean and said the two neighbours became good friends. Jean loved to dote on Stephanie’s daughter, Millie, who is four.
“She may have been small in height but she had a huge personality,” Stephanie said.
Writing on Facebook, she added: “RIP my beautiful friend. We are going to miss you so much.
“Millie will miss you spoiling her with chocolate and treats and trips to the shop. And your infectious laugh and huge personality will be missed.”
Gemma Dearlove worked with Jean for many years and described her as a ‘lovely lady,’ adding: “She gained her angel wings too soon.
“I send my sincere condolences to her family, especially her husband.
“Jean will be extremely missed by many people. She was one of a kind and will always be remembered for her red hair and quirkiness.”
Police are continuing to investigate the collision and say the driver of the car, a woman in her 80s, was taken to hospital but has since been released.
