Warren: Fury will be seen as the best heavyweight of his time

- By SHELDAN KEAY

FRANK Warren believes Tyson Fury will go down as the best heavyweight of his generation.

After nearly 1,000 days out, the former world heavyweight champion makes his return to the ring tomorrow when he takes on Sefer Seferi at the Manchester Arena.

Despite the 29-year-old’s long absence, promoter Warren has complete faith the Manchester fighter can once again climb the mountain and have a career to remember.

“I think he’ll now be a better fighter than he was back then. With the age he is, he will be the heavyweight of his generation, there is no doubt about that, and I don’t say that lightly,” said Warren.

“I was a doubter once and I made that clear.

“When he fought Dereck Chisora the second time I thought Chisora would win. Fury played with him and Chisora didn’t win a second of any round. Look at what Chisora has done since, he fought Dillian Whyte and a lot of people thought Chisora won the fight.

“Until Anthony Joshua beats Fury, he is not the true champion of the world, he’s got the belts that he’s picked up that Fury left behind.

“Until any of them fight Fury, they’re not the true world champion. The only way you can find out who is the best is to get in the ring. The only thing that could ever let Tyson down is his legs, at the end that’s what let Muhammad Ali down. His boxing brain was still there.”
