FABIAN Delph has revealed Pep Guardiola’s training ground secrets and admitted the principles they work with are surprisingly simple.

Guardiola’s tactics and style of play wowed the Premier League last season as City smashed a whole host of records.

One player who the City boss has helped to develop is 28-year-old Delph who stepped up to play at left-back in City’s title winning campaign.

While the England international has credited changing his diet and meditation to his impressive rise in form he’s also revealed the impact Guardiola has had on him this season.

“He has opened my eyes to so much. I didn’t picture football like Pep does. He’s painted the pictures for me,” Delph said.

“I stayed mentally strong, and I knew if I got my opportunity to play I could contribute and help the lads win games.”

Everyone waxed lyrical about the style of football City played last season but Delph explained the thinking behind their fast flowing attacking football is actually very simple.

“Pep smells the danger. We’ve got so many systems the way we played. Everybody seems to think, ‘Wow, what are they doing?’ But it is very simple,” Delph added.

“Basically we move the ball very fast, we take as few touches as possible and we stay in the positions, we utilise the spaces and distances perfectly and we have the courage to play out and build up from the back.”
