Flintoff unveils skyscraper plans
CRICKET LEGEND FLINTOFF REVEALS PLANS FOR 35-STOREY TOWER
CRICKET legend Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff wants to build a huge skyscraper in Castlefield - and this is what it could look like.
It is his first foray into property development.
The ex-England and Lancashire star’s property company Logik Developments has released a new CGI image of what the planned 35-storey tower could look like. It would house 159 flats. Flintoff, cousin Neil Spencer and business partner Tony Bhatti also want to build a 10-storey horseshoe-shaped block containing a further 215 apartments.
The proposed site, which is mainly made up of industrial and warehouse buildings, sits between Worsley Street, Arundel Street, Ellesmere Street and the Mancunian Way.
The company says the area is currently under-used and is the perfect spot for development.
Most of the homes would be two-bedroom flats, but some would have one bedroom.
Plans submitted to council chiefs also include a roof garden and space for shops.
The front of the red-brick Dot Motorcycle building will be kept and the inside transformed into 158 square metres of commercial space.
Logik Developments was incorporated last summer. The Castlefield Tower is the firm’s first Manchester project. Flintoff also wants to develop two Mayfield sites as part of the mammoth £800m regeneration of the area. Speaking about his move into the industry, the Ashes hero - and selfdescribed ‘adopted Mancunian’ - said he wanted to ‘build something special.’
“With that comes some pressure as well,” he added,
“I’m not going to lie. When you look around, not every building is great and we want to build some proper ones. We want to build some that we’re proud of.
“This is the first site and we want to get it 100 per cent right.”
The trio say the new buildings will work ‘in harmony with the industrial heritage of the area.’
“The inspiring design will create a new architectural landmark, improving the visual journey from Manchester’s inner ring road into the city centre,” planning papers add.
