Prison officer is arrested after woman raped at jail

A PRISON officer has been arrested after an allegation that a woman was raped at a Salford jail.

Police arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of rape at HMP Forest Bank over the weekend.

It is understood that the victim also works at the category B prison.

The suspect was taken into custody and questioned by officers about the incident over the weekend.

He has since been released under investigat­ion. The action comes after police were contacted on Saturday (June 16) following a report that a woman had been raped at the jail.

Police immediatel­y launched an investigat­ion and arrested 25-year-old man on suspicion of rape.

Bosses at Sodexo Justice Services, the private firm which runs the prison, say the incident is being investigat­ed by police.

A spokesman at HMP Forest Bank said: “We are working closely with the police in their investigat­ion concerning the arrest of a member of staff, and cannot make any further comment.”

GMP confirmed that a 25-year-old man was arrested on Saturday, June 16, on suspicion of rape at HMP Forest Bank.

A force spokesman added: “He has now been released under investigat­ion.

“Earlier that day (Saturday 16 June 2018) a report was made to police that a woman had been raped. “Inquiries are ongoing.” Forest Bank, which is located off Agecroft Road in Pendlebury, houses around 1,500 men.

Some are serving sentences while others are on remand ahead of court hearings.
