Frampton hits out at Quigg after snubbing him for fight at Windsor Park

- BOXING By SHELDAN KEAY

CARL Frampton has accused Scott Quigg of just wanting a pay day after it was confirmed the two men would not be fighting at Windsor Park on August 18.

Quigg, from Bury, exclusively revealed to M.E.N. Sport last month that he was hoping to secure a rematch with Frampton in Belfast later this summer, which will also feature Tyson Fury fighting on the undercard.

It won’t happen, though, as instead Frampton is set to take on unbeaten Australian Luke Jackson.

While some fans made it clear they would have been more interested in a fight against Quigg, Frampton has given his reasons why he didn’t want it to happen.

“People say Scott Quigg deserves another fight with me, he doesn’t at all. He’s looking for a pay day.

“I’ve already given him one of them and beaten him,” said Frampton. “This is a tougher fight than Scott Quigg.

“Luke Jackson is an Olympian, an undefeated fighter and this can change his life if he beats me in a fight of this magnitude.”

Quigg lost on points to Frampton in a super-bantamweight unification fight at the Manchester Arena in 2016.

He has since moved up to featherweight but lost last time out to Oscar Valdez in the US, having failed to make the weight for what would have been a WBO title fight.

Manchester heavyweight Fury is set for his second comeback fight following his win over Sefer Seferi at the Manchester Arena earlier this month, and he’s excited to fight in Northern Ireland.

“This will be my fourth time boxing in Belfast and I cannot wait. Seferi was 23-1 but as soon as I clipped him he didn’t want to know,” he said.

“I hope we get someone who will punch me in the face, and I am still hoping for four fights this year.”
