Belle Vue hit by heavy defeat on bad night in Poole

- By HAYLEY BROMLEY

BELLE Vue boss Mark Lemon has vowed his team will return even stronger after their 54-35 defeat at Poole – their heaviest away defeat in four years.

Confirmation of the annulment of Rye House Speedway resulted in a major re-shuffle of the Premiership, pushing the Rentruck Aces down to fourth from second in the table.

It placed greater emphasis on Belle Vue to deliver at Wimborne Road, but the Volvo Cars Pirates were just too good.

They opened up a 10-point lead over the visitors after four heats, but not before a spectacular crash in Heat 2 saw all four riders hit the deck.

It was an advantage maintained until an exclusion for Kacper Woryna in Heat 9 offered a small reprieve to the Rentruck Aces, which came in handy after a tapes infringement for Craig Cook.

But that was as far as their luck would hold as mechanical gremlins and controversial exclusions plagued the closing stages of the meeting and proved costly to the Aces.

Lemon said: “It was a very peculiar evening to be honest, and one that could’ve been a lot different but for some, quite frankly, poor refereeing decisions at our expense.

“It’s far from what we wanted to achieve and nobody’s feeling the sting more so than the boys.

“Of course we’re disappointed but it’s part and parcel of racing: inevitably, results like this will happen.

“We fully expected Poole to be firing though. They came into this off the back of a few losses so they had a point to prove and went all-out to prove it, so we can’t take anything away from them.

“It’s hard to find the positives from nights like this. Max [Fricke] had a good one and the team effort was spot on, and if nothing else it’s pumped us up for our match against Swindon.”
