Trump set to stay away from London during tour of UK
ANTI-TRUMP protesters are confident that despite the Government’s attempts to shield the US President from demonstrations, they cannot protect him from his favourite pastime - Twitter.
Huge protests had been planned in London for Donald Trump’s visit, including a giant ‘Trump Baby’ balloon flying in Parliament Square.
But it emerged yesterday he will be spending almost no time in London, and will only pass the first night of his visit in the capital, at the US Ambassador’s London residence in Regent’s Park.
Organisers have said demonstrations will go ahead as planned, with many saying they are confident that Mr Trump’s addiction to Twitter will force him to take notice of the protests.
Daniel Jones, part of the group that crowdsourced a six-metre high blow-up caricature of Mr Trump as a baby clutching a mobile phone, said they were hoping for a reaction from the president.
He told the Press Association: “We always thought it was likely that he would avoid London and we’ll continue as planned with our protest.
“We’re hoping that if he doesn’t see (the baby) in person he’ll see it on Twitter or in the media, which is quite likely because we’ve been in every publication.”
He continued: “We know that he’s quite volatile and if he gets any whiff of the size of the protest he may well tweet something that demonstrates to us and other protesters that he’s following what we’re doing.
“And the Government, like it or not, can’t smuggle him around the country without him seeing anything.”
