Cars broken into at ‘secure’ car park
POLICE are investigating after thieves targeted a ‘safe and secure’ car park at Manchester Airport.
GMP confirmed they have received at least four reports from holidaymakers who returned home to find their car windows had been smashed and their vehicles raided.
It’s believed that around a dozen high-class cars – including Mercedes, BMWs, Audis and Range Rovers – were broken into at the Terminal 1 multi-storey car park overnight on Saturday.
Photos taken the following morning show the vehicles surrounded by shattered glass, with glove boxes open and ransacked.
It’s understood the cars were parked on Levels 6, 7, and 8.
According to Manchester Airport’s website, the multistorey car park is ‘safe and secure’, so owners can ‘rest assured’ their cars are in ‘safe hands’.
Located just a few minutes’ walk from the airport check-in desks, customers can pre-book a space online.
When they arrive at the car park, their number plate is recognised by automatic number plate recognition technology and the barrier raises.
The barrier will raise again automatically when leaving.
The Terminal 1 car park has also been awarded the Park Mark – a national recognition scheme by the British Parking Association that recognises parking facilities that have met the requirements of a police risk assessment.
A spokesman for the airport confirmed that CCTV was in operation at the site and that its teams were working with the police.
They said: “We are aware of a number of incidents involving vehicles being damaged over the weekend.
“Our car park teams are supporting GMP with their investigation.”
A GMP spokesman added: “We have received at least four reports of vehicle interferences at a Manchester Airport car park. Some items were stolen. “Officers are investigating.” Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
