Idea of cafe for lovers of sausage dogs really has legs

-

MANCHESTER’S first sausage dog cafe was hailed a huge success with more than 200 of the short-legged hounds and their owners heading to the Northern Quarter.

A pop-up Dachshund Cafe at Yard & Coop in Edge Street was a chance for the dinky dogs and their owners to meet new friends.

And it wasn’t just for dachshund owners – dog lovers interested in meeting and finding out more about the breed were also invited to the party attended by 650 people.

There was a pitter patter of tiny paws as Yard & Coop welcomed fourlegged friends for a dedicated doggy menu including ‘pupcakes’, ‘dognuts’, ‘jammy dogdgers’, ‘bark-scotti’ and ‘pupuccinos’, while their owners could enjoy treats including restaurant’s buttermilk fried chicken, cakes and coffee.

The event was organised by the team behind the popular Pug Cafe, which has held a number of gatherings for pug owners and their pups in Manchester, knowing the city has a huge dachshund community.

Pug Cafe owner and Dachshund Café organiser Anushka Fernando said: “It was a huge success with more than 200 sausage dogs and 650 people.

“It was lovely to see so many smiling faces.”

The cafe is now moving on to Glasgow this weekend and following its success in Manchester organisers are hoping to bring the Dachshund Cafe back later this year, possibly for a Halloween theme event.
