UNITED SPECIAL Fred’s ready to get rocking with Reds

-

SUMMER signing Fred can’t wait to get his United career started.

The midfielder is set to meet up with his new teammates on the Reds’ pre-season tour of the US following a three-week break after being part of Brazil’s World Cup squad.

But he already has an eye on starting work following his £52m transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk - and has been receiving messages from United supporters.

Fred tweeted in response: “I’m very proud to join @ManUtd. New chapter of my career start, and I’m fully committed to work hard to help this huge club achieve success.

“Thanks to the fans for all the messages I received, and let’s be together to achieve our goals!”

Fred became United’s second arrival of the close season last month following the capture of young right-back Diogo Dalot from Porto.

He said on completing his move: “This is the biggest club in the world and I am delighted to be a part of this amazing team.

“To work with Jose Mourinho, who has won so many trophies in his time as a coach, is an opportunity not to be missed.

”I cannot wait to get started and to meet my new team-mates. I would like to thank everyone at Shakhtar Donetsk for everything they have done for me over the past five years.”

Mourinho, who wants to add a centreback to his two signings, said: “Fred will complement our other midfielders’ qualities, which we need – his creative brain and passing vision will give us another dimension to our game.”
