IT’LL BE A KILLER SHOW

- By DAISY JACKSON

FIVE studio albums. Four NME awards, one BRIT award, and seven Grammy nominations. A song that’s in the top 50 best-selling singles in the UK of all time. That’s The Killers in numbers, and the Las Vegas indie group will be playing in the flesh at Bolton’s Macron Stadium tonight (Friday).

Their live shows tend not to bother with hydraulics or moving stages or anything too complicated, preferring to let lead singer Brandon Flowers run the show. He’s a well-practiced and theatrical front man with a penchant for a flamboyant blazer.

Every one of The Killers’ five studio albums has reached the top of the UK albums chart, although none performed quite as well as 2004’s debut Hot Fuss - surely one of the greatest indie albums of all time.

It spawned the inescapable Mr Brightside, a song that still pops up in bars and at club nights even 15 years after its release, as well as single Somebody Told Me, Smile Like You Mean It, and All These Things That I’ve Done.

The group will play at the enormous Macron Stadium tonight (Friday), following on from their main headline UK tour late last year. Doors open - 5.30pm First support act - 7pm - 7.30pm Second support act - 8pm - 8.30pm The Killers - 9pm - 10.50pm Curfew - 10.50pm The show is mostly sold out at this stage, but there are still some seated tickets available - at £82.50 each (including booking fee) - on both Ticketmaster and Gigs and Tours. It looks like there are still hospitality packages available directly through the venue - call 01204 673761 to see what’s available. Alex Cameron Australian Alex Cameron has got a good relationship with The Killers he’s supported them at a few gigs and is often pulled on stage to sing with the group while he’s at it.

He initially developed a cult following with his high-concept solo act where he pretended to be a failed entertainer. He released his debut album Jumping the Shark for free on his website in 2013, before it was picked up by a record label and reached a wider audience.

Brandon Flowers himself tipped it as the best album of 2016 - high praise indeed.

He’ll support the group tonight, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see him pop up on stage during the main event too. Juanita Stein Another Aussie here - Juanita Stein is the lead vocalist with Howling Bells, but she’s gone it alone while supporting The Killers for this tour.

She released her debut solo album America in July last year, with a follow-up, titled Until The Lights Fade, available for pre-order now.

The honey-voiced singer often draws comparisons to Lana Del Rey, thanks to her spine-tingling, countryinfluenced, nostalgic sound.

She was also once voted ‘the sexiest woman in rock’, if that sways you to getting to the venue early.
