Office block could house students at Neville’s university

-

A BUILDING could be transformed into a block of 200 rooms for students at Gary Neville’s University Academy 92.

Plans to revamp Warwick House, opposite Trafford town hall, have been tabled. They will complement the former United defenderturned-developer’s university plan.

UA92 will open in the former Kellogg’s office, opposite the Old Trafford Cricket Ground.

There were plans to turn Warwick House – a former office block on Talbot Road – into a block of 80 flats. Those proposals, by Beech Holdings, have been scrapped.

Now T-Space Developments has submitted plans for a student accommodation block, under the UA92 Student Living Brand.

Blueprints include a student lounge, a bar and cafe and communal facilities. If approved, it would be the second student block to serve the new university.

Charlton House is set to be converted into 140 flats.

Both blocks could be ready for the 2019/20 academic year, when UA92 is set to open. Neville’s plan is backed by fellow former Reds Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and his brother Phil.

It is also supported by Trafford council, Trafford College and property firm Bruntwood. Space in the former Kellogg’s building will be taken up on a phased basis.

Students will initially be taught in the basement and on the first and ground floors.

The university, which will operate as a branch of Lancaster University, could later expand and take up the upper two floors.

There are also plans for a leisure centre, a hotel with 184 bedrooms, and more than 150 apartments.
