Sancho proves his point against Blues

- By STUART BRENNAN

JADON Sancho had a ‘point to prove’ as he helped Borussia Dortmund beat City in Chicago.

The former Blues youngster, who quit the club last summer in pursuit of first-team football, showed flashes of his ability as a second half substitute. And while he said he enjoyed meeting up with old pals – the City team was rammed with youngsters – he was also happy to put one over on them.

“It was nice to see my old teammates – a game is a game,” he said. “I am glad we won. I am happy to play against my old club.

“I had a point to prove. I think I did well in the game. Hopefully it carries on through the season.”

Sancho, tipped to be an England star by the time of the next World Cup, and described as an ‘exciting boy’ by his Dortmund coach before the game, was sold for £8m last year after threatening to run down his contract as he was impatient for first-team action.

“I am very happy in Dortmund, playing was the main thing when I moved from City and I am enjoying my football at the moment,” he said.

Sancho had a bright debut season in the Bundesliga and reckons he will improve again with that experience under his belt.

“I am very motivated for the season. We have a special team and I am very grateful for that.

“For myself I want a great season. Goals, assists. Help the team win and carry it sometimes. That is what I want to do this season.”
