A CORNER of Manchester was magically transformed into Diagon Alley thanks to a Harry Potter fan convention.

Hundreds of people - young and old - donned capes and hats to indulge their passion for JK Rowling’s world of wizardry on Saturday and Sunday.

The Printworks was transfigured into Diagon Alley, while actors and others who helped behind the scenes with make-up and special effects held question and answer sessions.

Among them was renowned movie sculptor Brian Muir and Josh Herdman, who played Draco Malfoy’s Slytherin sidekick Gregory Goyle.

A full orchestra was also on hand to play the film’s scores. Potterheads came from all over the north west.

Charlotte, writing on Twitter, said: “Thank you ever so much for putting on such a fabulous day. Me and my cousin will be attending next year. Thanks again for making dreams happen.”

Claire Grover wrote: “Some #harrypotter convention we stumbled across in Manc today was crazy people all dressed up and piling into the pubs for shows and stuff it was rammed.”

Jesse Lynn Smart said: “I wish every day was a Harry Potter convention! It’s been so nice to mingle with our tribe and talk at length about Harry Potter and not worry about people thinking we’re weird.” The independent convention was put on by DiagCon.
