Reports car driven at man after fighting in the street

A MAN suffered serious injuries when he was hit by a vehicle during an early hours incident in Moss Side.

Detectives are investigat­ing following reports of a disturbanc­e on Great Western Street, near the junction of Princess Road, on Thursday morning.

Officers were scrambled to the scene just before 5.30am after witnesses described seeing a group of men fighting before a vehicle was driven at a man. The victim later turned up at hospital and required treatment for a serious hip injury.

Two men, aged 21 and 31, were arrested on suspicion of affray in connection with the incident. They have since been released under investigat­ion. Photograph­s showing the aftermath of the incident show a flattened street sign.

Enquiries are ongoing and police are urging assistance from the public.

Detective Inspector Gary Smith, of Greater Manchester Police’s City of Manchester Borough, said: “Despite the fact that we have made three arrests, our enquiries are very much ongoing. This has happened in a residentia­l area, and we are confident that there are witnesses who can assist our investigat­ion, and I would urge anyone with informatio­n to get please get in touch with police.”
