Thunderstorms on their way this weekend

-

THUNDERSTORMS, heavy rain showers and gusty winds are set to put a dampener on the weekend weather in Manchester.

Following a hot and sunny end to the working week in the region the rain is expected to move in on Saturday morning.

By midday there is a risk of thunderstorms developing, with the rain set to fall for most of the day.

On Sunday it will be more the same, with heavy rain and gusty winds.

It will feel a lot fresher than in recent days, with temperatures dipping to the low 20s. The worst of the weather will be in Ireland, Wales and southwest England.

It will be drier and bright after the rain has passed through. The damp conditions come days after the UK was basking in a heatwave, with Manchester enjoying temperatures of 30 - 31C on Thursday.

Weekend temperatures will reach highs of 29C.
