Corrie fans seeing double with Mollie

-

CORONATION Street fans just can’t get over how much the character Kayla Clifton looks - and sounds - like former Corrie star Michelle Keegan. But the actress who plays Kayla, Mollie Winnard, says she can’t see it herself. Although she admits she’s flattered by the comparison!

Mollie told the M.E.N: “Personally I don’t see it but, obviously, I take it as an absolute massive, massive compliment!

“She’s gorgeous, she’s really really stunning so I’m pretty happy with it but I don’t see it myself!”

Michelle played Corrie’s Tina McIntyre for six years until the character’s dramatic death in 2014. Meanwhile, Mollie joined Corrie earlier this year as the mysterious Kayla, who was recently involved in a dramatic attack on Bethany Platt.

While Mollie and Michelle are definitely unrelated in real life, there was a coincidental meeting between the two when Mollie was first auditioning for the soap.

She explains: “It was a massive coincidence, I’d gone to see my Manchester acting coach but as I went there had been an incident which meant his previous appointment was delayed and Michelle Keegan just happened to be there.

“She’s so lovely and down to earth and she said: ‘I’ll read some lines with you, come on.’

“She is just the most down to earth, unaffected, lovely person I’ve ever met and it was really great to meet her. “She was so helpful.” It’s Mollie’s first major acting role on Corrie and she is loving it.

We caught up with Mollie when she was backstage at the big Hits Radio Live event in Manchester earlier this month.

She said: “I’ve been loving every minute of Corrie, I’ve learned so much, it’s been a great experience.

“It’s a very juicy storyline but I promise I’m really nice in real life. I don’t want people to think I’m a bad person!

“She’s been a fun character to play, and keep watching!”
