A MAN has appeared in court accused of shooting a mother and her sevenyear-old son in Salford.

Carne Thomasson, 28, is charged with two counts of conspiracy to murder after Christian and Jayne Hickey were gunned down on the doorstep of their home in Winton, Eccles, on Monday, October 12, 2015.

Thomasson, who appeared before Manchester magistrates yesterday morning, is also charged with conspiring to pervert the course of justice.

Christian and his mother, who were aged seven and 30 at the time of the incident, were taken to hospital and had to undergo surgery numerous times before being discharged.

Thomasson appeared in the dock wearing a grey T-shirt and smiled and waved to members of his family who were sat in the public gallery.

He spoke only to confirm his name and age and when asked his address, said he had been living in Spain.

Prosecutor Philip Barnes said: “These are indictable offences only and will have to be sent to the crown court.

“There are eight defendants facing identical or similar charges arising out of the same series of events. They are due to appear at Manchester Crown Court on September 14.

“The crown has requested that this defendant appear before Manchester Crown Square on September 6.” No plea was entered. Thomasson was remanded in custody.

On Wednesday, June 27, this year, the Spanish National Police, working with the National Crime Agency, arrested a man on behalf of Greater Manchester Police after a European Arrest Warrant was granted.

Six other men have already been charged in connection with the shootings and are due to enter pleas next month.

Christopher Hall, 48, of HMP Manchester; Aldaire Warmington, 31, of HMP Hollesley Bay and John Thomasson, 49, of Wakefield Crescent, Stockport, are charged with conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Dominic Walton, 26, of HMP Long Lartin; James Coward, 22, of HMP Risley and Lincoln Warmington, 31, of Summerville Road, Salford, are accused of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
