MANCHESTER’S infamous Press Club is to become a new branch of risque A-list celebrity nightspot the Toy Room.

Bosses have revealed plans to turn the historic former Press Club into The Toy Box, with a glitzy private launch party on Saturday, August 18.

They aim to bring the A-list sparkle of their London, Dubai, Rome and Athens venues to Manchester at the basement club on Queen Street, off Deansgate.

The club is known for combining the innocence of childhood with its teddy bear logo, but with risque imagery and naughty-named cocktails that may make you blush.

It is described as ‘an exclusive haunt for the arts, fashion and celebrities set.’ Revellers at their international branches have included music stars Rihanna, Drake and U2, Hollywood royalty Leonardo DiCaprio, Kevin Costner and Bradley Cooper – and bosses believe they will attract a similar clientele in Manchester.

Toy Room was founded by two Italians – Jordan Rocca, from Genoa, and Luca Maggiora, from Turin, who met in London while both working in the hospitality industry. Jordan came to London to work as a broker, club-promoting on the side to make extra cash.

After the club-promoting became more profitable than his finance job, he quit and joined forces with successful nightlife entrepreneur Luca to open their first club, Project. After Project, Maggiora and Rocca launched Charlie nightclub and then Socialist’s private members club in Mayfair with restaurateur Giuseppe Cipriani.

Afterwards, the concept of Toy Room was launched by Jordan and Luca when they decided they wanted to launch a more relaxed fun playground for their existing black book of VIPs with outrageous twists like the signature teddy bear which you can find in every club and a special light box with the words “I Lost my Teddy Bear, Can I Sleep with You” which will be a signature attraction in the Manchester location.

The Press Club was founded in 1870 as a late-night drinking establishment for journalists once the daily deadlines were met, and in more recent years was known as a late-night haunt which allowed access to media, celebrities and the emergency services and famed for its karaoke stage and dancefloor.

The Toy Box interiors will include a 360 degree bar, and an interior showcasing artist Antonio Tadrissi’s work with cool urban markings by local graffiti artist Ben Downs.

The launch will be hosted by Toy Room’s partners Luca and Jordan, Marc Merran, the partner of Mnky Hse, Beat, and Movida, and a consortium of investors.

Toy Room is one of the biggest nightlife brands in the world with eight locations in major cities from London to Dubai.
