Lancs make it a Blast double over Yorkshire

KARL Brown hailed an ‘unbelievable win’ as Lancashire completed a stunning Vitality Blast double over Yorkshire.

The Red Rose, having won off the last ball at Emirates Old Trafford last month, saw off their old enemy at Headingley by six wickets last night to revitalise their T20 campaign.

Man-of-the-match Brown scored 51 off 34 balls as Lightning chased down Yorkshire’s 181-9 to break a run of five North Group matches without a win which had threatened to see them miss out on the quarterfinal spot.

They are now back up to third in the table with three games left, starting with tonight’s visit of Birmingham Bears to Old Trafford.

“It’s an unbelievable win,” said opener Brown, who was helped with innings by Arron Lilley (47 off 20) and Alex Davies (34 off 21).

“It’s always nice to come here and win. It was looking like they were going to get a real big score at one stage, and the bowlers pulled it back. “The lads showed real character. “The way we played, you’d probably have to say their score was slightly under par.

“It was a really good pitch, and P W L T NR Pt RR Alex (Davies) and Arron (Lilley), in particular, played unbelievable knocks.

“The way Arron plays, he’s not going to hang around. I felt giving him the strike was the best thing to do. And he played some brilliant shots.

“We wanted to come here and put on a performance, and we did that. Everybody’s proud of how we played.”

Lancashire looked like having to chase down a huge score at one point as David Willey smashed 80 off just 43 balls to take Yorkshire to 102-1 at the half-way stage.

But Lightning claimed eight wickets for 51 in the last 8.1 overs of the Vikings innings, with Australian James Faulkner claiming three wickets in a stunning final over to leave the home side on 181-9.

Wrist spinners Matthew Parkinson and Zahir Khan struck twice apiece, with Parkinson particularly impressive in taking 2-31.
