Sharks warm-up with French champs

-

SALE Sharks up their preparation for the new Gallagher Premiership campaign with a clash against Top 14 champions Castres Olympique in France tomorrow.

It is the second pre-season match for Steve Diamond’s men after a 31-0 win over Doncaster Knights at Heywood Road last weekend.

The match saw both Chris Ashton and Denny Solomona in action for the Sharks.

“We were a bit ring rusty,” director of rugby Diamond told the club’s website. “Overall, it was a good night – no injuries on either side.

“It’s been a very worthwhile week. Doncaster trained with us over four days, so they understood what we were trying to do, and they managed to ruffle our feathers on more than one occasion.

“I think the positives are that our discipline was very good. We only gave away about four penalties on the night.

“Our defence was good – our scramble defence was exceptional and we scored some good tries. And it was good to have Chris Ashton and Denny Solomona here – good players who can play anywhere in the back line, and they showed their abilities.

“Denny marched an opponent back ten metres from his own try line and Chris showed his skills all over the park.

“I’m pleased, and we can pack our bags and go to France.”

Sale start their campaign away to Harlequins at the Stoop on September 1.
