A DOG walker was left overwhelmed when a kind-hearted young girl put out water and Bonio biscuits on a popular footpath.

Tony Evans, 47, was strolling along with pet Nook beside the Peak Forest Canal from his hometown of Dukinfield when he made the discovery.

An aluminium bowl filled with fresh water and a pouch of dog biscuits were left near the canal in Romiley, Stockport.

They were accompanied by a note saying: “WATER for Dogs. Please take a Boneo biscuit. Love Megan.”

Security guard Tony says he was taken aback at the thoughtful gesture and is now trying to find out exactly who ‘Megan’ is, so he can thank her.

“It’s just so sweet and a really lovely thing to do,” he said.

“I would just like to try and track her down and thank her, really.

“She must only be five or six judging by the writing.

“The water is fresh as well and she must be coming to top it up each day.”

Tony often goes on long walks or treks with Nook, who he has had since 2011, however, he says he has never seen anything like this.

He spotted the dog treats on a 16-mile walk along the Peak Forest Canal on Wednesday.

“You sometimes see a bowl of water left out, outside a pub or something like that or along the canal, but it’s rarely fresh like this” he said. “You couldn’t miss it. “It was on a path which leads from Peak Bank, a new estate which is just behind the canal.

“The bowl had been left on a floor and the biscuits were in a wallet pinned to a builder’s fence. “She’s obviously going to a real effort. “Nook isn’t really a dog biscuit man, but he had a nibble of one and a big drink. “It just makes a change from the stories of people lacing sausages with chemicals or leaving nails about for dogs to tread on which you sometimes hear about. “It can be a crappy world sometimes. “But this restored my faith in humanity. “It left me with a lump in my throat and I’m a big, burly bloke. “I just hope this gets back to her somehow as she should know it’s appreciated. “Her parents should also be really proud.”
